American idol Night of the Missed Last Note

American Idol March 16, 2011

Performances:

Night of the missed last note: Naima, James, Stefano

Naima Adedapo- Singing was okay, movement on stage was great. I wish they'd give beautiful Naima a makeover because she'd be guarenteed extra votes. I predict she'll be in Bottom Three, not my bottom three, but America's.

Thia Megia- pretty voice, pretty girl, but a little on the dull side. Like J Lo says, "I don't want to think about your vibrato." I feel like she has some Nora Roberts in her.

Paul McDonald- he nailed his Elton John song, even with a cold.

James Durbin performed Bon Jovi, but promised that he's saving Aerosmith for the finale. I can't wait.

Haley Reinhart - Wrong song choice, only 25% of it showed off her voice, the rest was cutesy stuff that didn't serve her or work for me. Randy says, "you're not sure at all" who you are. I predict as a Bottom three contender.

Milli Vanilli
Stefano Langone - judges loved. I didn't like the first note or last note, but I loved everything in between. He'll probably gain a million bonus votes for running off the stage to hug his mama, otherwise I would have put him in the bottom three (between him and Jacob). I'm laughing that he gave a shout out to Milli Vanilli for having a great song in 1989. Does he not know about the scandal and how they where the beautiful front faces of the real singers?

Pia Toscano - Performance was good. I would have loved something else. Did you really have to wear a romper for your performance?

Scotty McCreery- once again he nailed his country song. Nailed it. He will have a recording deal with or without the win. It'll be interesting to see how many country fans support American Idol, because they will certainly give him their vote. Like Randy says,  he can step out

Karen Rodriguez - beautiful job.

Casey Abrams - I get that you love this Nirvana song. So do I. You had fun, but it was like a joke performance. The repetitive nature of the lyrics did not translate well in the two-minutes performance. This was more James Durbin's style. Even Steven Tyler's comments were full of forced enthusiasm. I love your music. I love your performances. I love your personality. Please shave.

Lauren Alaina - poor girl has the flu. You can see it in her eyes. But I liked her way better this week vs. last week. I agree with the judges, "very nice" "very good job" "have a cold every week."

Jacob Lusk - sang Heart's Alone. Not good. Judges loved so I hope that keeps you there. I'm so sorry, but I predict he shares possibility of the bottom three with Stefano.

One thing about the the judges not being real this year, America is truly on their own for decision making.

Look Who's The Next Bachelorette

The Bachelorette - ABC unveiled their next star.  Hello Ashley Hebert. We got to know Ashley after the fabulous carnival date she enjoyed with Brad Womack (Bachelor star who who proposed to Emily Maynard on Monday nights broadcast (3.14). Although Ashley showed an annoyingly insecure side of her personality on The Bachelor, she also revealed a fun, peppy, bursting-with-life character. And come on, who wouldn't be insecure when the guy you are falling for happens to be dating 25 beautiful women.
Excerpts from interview when announcement was made:

Jimmy Kimmel: "Do you promise, on national television, to date 25 men simultaneously without complaining?" "Do you promise to make sure the hot tubs are clean and have enough chlorine and their bacteria levels are low?"

Ashley: "I'll do my best with that."

Jimmy: "Were you then glad that Brad didn't pick you?"

Ashley: "Yeah...I mean, I think it all turned out for the best."

Hmmmm. I wonder what Litner (a character on Lie to Me) would say about Ashley's non-verbals when she answered that question.

Would you have picked Ashley Hebert as the new Bachelorette star? If not, who?

Judges too nice...What the Idol Contestants Should Have Heard

Words the contestants should have heard

1. Lauren - Okay, I love you and want to love you, but I didn't love tonight's performance. Like Steven Tyler says, "I wish you would have been more kick-@ss."

PREDICTION ALERT: TOP THREE PICK TO MAKE IT ALL THE WAY ...CASEY ABRAMS
2. Casey Abrams- your toddler picture is adorable, you have a great smile, and your personality is awesome. This isn't even my "normal" music, but I'd go see you in concert. You wanted to "sweat the music" and you did it! So unbelievably good. Randy, "You make listening to you sing fun." Steve "you're a rainbow of talent and a plethora of passion."

PREDICTION ALERT...ASHTON'S GOING HOME THIS
3. Ashton-I like your personality, I think you're beautiful, and you're probably fun to hang out with, but I've never enjoyed your singing. I had hoped you'd change my mind tonight, but you didn't. I don't get how Randy knows pitchiness and didn't call you out on it tonight.

4. Paul McDonald-sang a Ryan Adams song. Paul, I get you love this performer and this song...it showed in your performance. You have a nice smile and like Steve, I think you have great "character and rasp" your his voice. I'm a fan but tonight's performance was not good.

5. Pia Toscano- please don't wear a superman cape with your dresses, you're too pretty for that. I think you sang the song beautifully. I craved something more, something extra out of the song or unique to you, but you sounded fantastic.  That was a huge song and you nailed it. Randy "very hot cool dope performance."

PREDICTION ALERT...TOP THREE PICK ...JAMES DURBIN
6. James Durbin - James! I'm amazed when I hear you sing. You will pack stadiums when you start booking concerts. From Judas Priest to Paul McCartney...you can sing it all. Randy, "James Durbin is dangerous, America. This dude can sing."

7. Haley Reinhart - you left me confused with the yodeling Hawaiian-sounding song. Sure, you did a fine job, but it's not American Idol.

8. Jacob Lusk-my dear, lovable, ex-spa concierge. Please think about song choice, because you are a talent.

9. Thia Megia- your performance was flawless.  I'm so confused when the judges call you pitchy and Ashton fine.

10. Stefano - I was happy for you to be a judges wild card pick, but this was too high for your voice and too ick for me to like. Whatever everyone in the audience enjoyed, it did not translate through the TV.

11. Karen Rodriguez- I love your sweet personality. I love your mid and high range notes. I do not like your low, pitchy notes. I was really excited for your performance, but I was left feeling ho-hum.

12. Scotty McCreery - Scotty, our North Carolina boy, why do we keep seeing you behind the scene in these odd, faux country club visors. You did great, you sound exactly like the original, but when are you going to bring your own surprise to the song. Randy, however, said he agreed with you, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Steven, "You did Garth justice."

13. Niama - I loved that you brought entertainment to the stage...dancing, a fun song, and your added reggae. I'm so glad you're still in this competition.

Side notes:
First question:  why does Don Was look like Ted Williams before his rescue?

Second: Ryan S., I loved your Paul McDonald imitation.

Third- J. Lo, please let Randy speak. I like a little arguing from the judges, but not every single time you disagree with him. Save the disputes for when they count.

Top 12 Girls Perform and Predictions for American Idol 2011

Top 12 Girls
**predictions for top finishers an picks

Predictions for top Five
1. Lauren (100% for certain she will be through because if America doesn't put her through, the judges will)
2. Naima
3. Haley
4. Thia
5. Pia
6. Judges save either Lauren Turner or Rachel

PERFORMANCES
1. Ta Tynisa-cute cute but no way can she go through. How did she make it this far?
**2. Naima - yes! Not only am I rooting for her but her performance was amazing!
3. Kendra - great job, I really like her but I'm not jumping up and down.
*4. Rachel - love the pinup styling. Not my favorite performance but I really want her to go through. She pulled a Jordan, and I don't understand why she (and he) would sin something that does not show the type of artist they are.
5. Karen-I  don't know her but she looked and sounded amazing on stage. Beautiful melody with English/Spanish mix.
*6. Lauren-talented Bette Midlerish but not enough press so we don't know enough to give her our vote. It's not fair :-(
7. Ashton-I love her confidence but her voice is not for me
8. Julie - best dress of the night. Wrong song for her voice. I did not enjoy at all.
**9. Haley Reinhart - awesome soulful interesting big range performance. I loved her! I would have been on my feet applauding.
Steve Tyler to Randy when Randy didn't like Haley's performance, "if I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong."
**10. Thia Megia-I'm finally a fan. Her voice is crystal clear beautiful. I hope she brings more youthful performances to her future (and some personality)
** 11. Lauren Alaina - showed up like she was the guest star instead if a contestant. She brought fun to the stage and was true to her style. Nice compliment from Randy, "you're a Kelly meets Carrie"
**12. Pia Toscana - first all judges standing O

The Year American Idol was Redefined and Top Six Boy Predictions

2011 is the year American Idol was redefined

Why:
1. Voting available at American Idol.com

2. Judge Remix is finally right again-right balance of personalities, right quantity of judges, and right isms…Steve Tylerisms that is. He’s half the entertainment i.e. He was provided a portable bleep bubble but then made his own adjustment,   "Jovany, Holy shipyards"
3. Instead of working our way down to the top ten, we’re cutting right to the chase. After tonight’s voting, America will pick their top five boys and the judges will pick a wild card.
4. Type of musicians-amazing and unique performers different from any other year we’ve experienced.

Top Six Boy PREDICTIONS:

1.      Casey Abrams
2.      James Durbin
3.      Jacob Lusk
4.      Brett Lowenstern
5.      Scotty McCreedy
6.      Jovany Barreto or Stefano Langone -I’d like to add that although these are my predictions, I’d love to see Paul McDonald stay
-if i ran a dictatorship, I’d keep Casey, James, (Jacob or Scotty), Brett, Paul, and Clint

Break Down of the Top Twelve Boys and their Performance (** = prediction):
Clint Jun Gamboa- band overpowered him. He was one of my top picks, but tonight he didn’t bring it. He is great, this performance was not. Judges liked him, so what they heard in that room must have not translated through the television.

* Jovany Barreto (he shares/splits this prediction spot with Stefano, but I predict only one of the two will go through) - nice performance but like Randy said, he didn't bring anything new to the song.

Jordan-left me confused. He's a better singer than he showed with his karaoke version of Usher’s song. Good stage presence but even that was weird. I thought he’d bring greatness, but he delivered a big zero…a shame, because he has it in him. His only hope for votes is that he’s had a lot of press, and although we’ve seen his diva side, we’ve also heard his excellent voice.

Tim Halperin- good but he too was swallowed by the band. Poor guy, because he didn’t have a lot of press and we don't know him so will he get votes?

**Brett Lowenstern-sang a Jim Morrison song. Yes! I love his annunciations and his edgy voice. Awkward stage presence but I love how different he is. Brett is unique and brings a specialty factor to the show. He is one of my personal front runners and I hope America loves him as much as I do.

**James Durbin-a rock star right out the gate. I think he ought not do his scream-sing in every single performance, but I loved it tonight and without a doubt he was, as Steve Tyler said, over the top and crazy good! He is also one of my top five picks and predictions.  Furthermore, he’s a big guys… America should vote for him just for the entertainment of seeing him and Randy stand side-by-side on stage...it's like the abominable snowman next to Santa's favorite elf.

Robby-beautiful singer but old-school American Idol. He skirts the edge of boring.

**Scotty-great and true performance. As J-Lo says, it was in his lane. He is also one of my top five predictions because he's good and because he is the country element to the show.

*Stefano Langone- He had a weird start but he has a beautiful voice. Nice job. I'm on the fence but I put him as splitting the spot for the top five picks with Jovany. It’s one or the other.

Paul McDonald-it's tough because he didn't get press and now he's competing for only one of five available votes. I agree with judges that he has character in his voice, character in how he moves, and character in how he performs. I'm scared he's going to go home, but I'd love for him to stay. I’d give him a vote.

**Jacob Lusk-Picked the exact perfect song for him. I was glad to see him dial it down with all the crazy runs he's capable of. Steve Tyler to Jacob, "I don't know where you get it man, but I will bathe in it." He's a top five pick and if he doesn't get the vote, he will most certainly get the judges wild card vote.

**Casey Abrams-Want to see a crowd fired-up...watch Casey! Top five pick easy. He is the essence of what I mean by Redefining American Idol.
